тетрациклические монокарбоновые оксикислоты из класса стероидов, вырабатываемые печенью позвоночных из холестерина (см. холестерин) и секретируемые с желчью. По химическому строению эти соединения близки к холестерину. Для Ж.к. характерно наличие укороченной разветвленной боковой цепи с карбоксильной группой на конце. В печени вначале образуются первичные Ж.к. — холевая и хенодезоксихолевая (антроподезоксихолевая). Дегидроксилирование этих соединений по С-7 микрофлорой кишечника приводит к образованию вторичных Ж.к. — литохолевой и дезоксихолевой. Функциональное назначение Ж.к. — растворение холестерина и эмульгирование жиров в тонком кишечнике. За изучение строения Ж.к. и установление их физиологической функции Нобелевской премии за 1927 г. удостоен Г. Виланд.Толковый биотехнологический словарь. Русско-английский. > желчные кислоты
